The core of our business is to build imagination, allow freedom to be oneself and to build stronger bonds between children and their caregivers in a fun, safe and duty free environment. We welcome every child with open arms, even those with social or learning restrictions and we encourage anyone to accompany them who feels like it; whether it be mom, dad, grandma, a nanny or favorite aunty.
We are the first playgroup to bring messy play to town where children are allowed to play freely and be as messy as they like. All the recipes and sensory bases we use are made of safe-to-taste, food grade and non-toxic ingredients.
To create a space for children and their caregivers to connect, explore and play freely
To nurture and encourage every child’s natural curiosity and tendency to play messy without being limited. Everywhere children go, they are limited to some extent with rules and boundaries. We aim to provide a safe and loving space where children are allowed to indulge in their desire to play however they see fit, no matter the mess. This freedom will encourage them to build on a variety of skills in the following areas:
Sensory sensitivity - your child being exposed to different sensory experiences and elements will teach them to tolerate textures, tastes and smells all around them
Social skills - playing in an environment where no pressure is added, young children may learn to connect with those around them better and figure out how to play along
Natural skills and interests - your child may discover a natural skill or passion they have and focus on that, whether it be technical like building structures or creative like painting freely
Building bonds - by spending this quality time together, whoever the parent or caregiver may be that joins the workshop, the child strengthens their bond and trust in them by spending this dedicated time together through play
Filling your own cup - parents or caregivers also need some time to unwind and re-focus on hard days. So some may choose to use a workshop as an opportunity to step back, observe and enjoy a coffee to fill their mental cup again too
To love every child we meet
To be kind and supportive to every parent and caregiver
To put the same amount of love and passion into every workshop
To never stop having fun
Hi, I’m Suzelle.
Owner and creator of The Mess Collective, and momma to my beautiful daughter, Selene. She is my inspiration behind everything I do and the reason I started this business. After a very turbulent time as a working mother when she was still very young, I became a full time stay at home mom. I wanted to be present in her life through her young years, so putting her in school was not something I wanted to do.
I spent a long time reflecting on our future and how I can navigate being a mom and having a career again, and after brewing on many different ideas, The Mess Collective was born. Finding a work-life balance that still allows a mother to prioritize her child is rare in our society, but I am determined to prove it’s possible and show my daughter how strong us women really are.
I started doing sensory activities with Selene when she was about 7 month old. A tub of rainbow rice would calm her down so easily on hard days. That is where my passion was born and every single recipe I’ll ever use is made by me and tested on my best customer.
